About Me

Hi! I am Vidya Sury.

Before I tell you about myself, let me share why I started this blog.

Why Life Hacks for Diabetics?

Grab a jug of water and enjoy as you read on.

Being a diabetic is no fun. It is challenging. It means a lifelong commitment to making and following a healthy lifestyle, sticking to a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise.

You see, the problem is, diabetes by itself is not the issue. It is the complications triggered by it that hurt the most. To stop this from happening, it is important for a diabetic to equip herself with the knowledge and facts to help her manage her condition and live a good quality life.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in February 2014. Needless to say, I was shocked. I went through the why-me phase and sulked at the injustice of it all. I led a healthy and active lifestyle, walked a lot and was careful with my diet – so how did this happen?

In my case, genetics. Apparently, even if a remote relative in your family has diabetes, everyone is at risk. No, it is not a communicable disease, but the genes do it.

But it isn’t just genetics that’s the culprit. Diabetes is also a lifestyle disease. All it takes is irregular eating habits, inactivity and inadequate sleep and of course, the kind of food you eat.

Truth is, there is no such thing as the diabetes diet, although once you know you’re diabetic, you are told to avoid certain foods that trigger a blood sugar hike. But this holds good for everyone. I  mean, who doesn’t need a healthy diet, enough sleep, and exercise to stay healthy?

And that’s the purpose of this blog. I figured that there are lots of people like me who’re proactively looking for ways to manage their diabetes/a healthy lifestyle and decided to share what I learn in the form of actionable tips that are easy to implement and include in your routine.

I shudder to think that India has been mentioned as the diabetes capital of the world. Should we not take good care of ourselves?

Rather than waste energy on worry, why not take action and help ourselves stay healthy?

Together, let’s show diabetes who’s boss!

  1. My husband is also recently diagnosed with Diabetes. He is just 28. I can totally relate to what you have said above and I believe that in spite of Diabetes, we can live a normal life.
    Thanks for sharing it!
And I hope that they will ban junk food centers in India. That can solve lot of health issues that we face.

    1. Thank you Dhanashree! Yes, managing diabetes is mainly a matter of attitude change. Then everything changes accordingly. Happy to see you here.
True what you say about the junk food outlets. They offer convenience which takes priority over health most of the time!
